I watched a Youtube video about fitting TTS into the Class 66 - which seems extremely straightforward, but they replaced the TTS speaker with a rectangular bass reflex speaker - it sounded pretty good. A reasonable sound loco for about £120 - not bad.

There is so much space in there you could probably fit a pair of ‘Wharfedales’ (de rigueur back in the day - showing my age ) in there. I just put in a small sugar cube from the bits box but I may buy something bigger next time I order a top up from YouChoos.bulleidboy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 5:01 pmI watched a Youtube video about fitting TTS into the Class 66 - which seems extremely straightforward, but they replaced the TTS speaker with a rectangular bass reflex speaker - it sounded pretty good. Back onto the subject of coach lighting. I saw a roll of 12v LED's on ebay that you can cut to whatever length you want - there are solder pads every few inches. Could you stick a length of LED's to the inside of a carriage roof, and then just run two cables - one with a resistor - down to pick-ups on the bogie and use track power to power the lights? Sounds to simple?

That, Barry, is exactly what I did with my GWR autocoach.

A bridge rectifier or diodes making up a bridge rectifier is needed for DC operation, as the polarity reverses with direction of travel of DC power. The BR's AC side connecting to the wheels and rails and its DC side to the correct pads of the LED strip or even to single LEDs with suitable series resistors.bulleidboy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 9:52 am Back onto the subject of coach lighting. I'm DCC Brian - so assume try as originally planned?
I might give it a go - seems to much easier than fitting the various kits that are available. The other idea, having watched numerous youtube videos, would be to attach a latching reed switch in the roof - I have placed a strong magnet just inside the tunnel portal on the exit from the fiddle yard, if this works, the lights would be turned on as the train leaves and turned off when it returns - all sounds to simple to work?

DCC, I would still add a Bridge Rectifier as DCC is a form of AC and not ideal or best for direct feeding to any LED, though they will work. Plus once a BR is added you can then add an electrolytic capacitor to stop flicker. This cannot be added without some form of converting the DCC to DCbulleidboy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 10:38 am I'm DCC Brian - so assume try as originally planned?

I fitted my Hornby Class 66 Capt. Tom Moore with the Hornby TTS sound decoder today. I replaced the Hornby speaker with a Zimo LS40x20x09 Optimised "3D" Speaker - 80hm - 1Watt. The speaker came from YouChoos - it took about ten minutes. It really does need lights? It was also straight out of the box - so would probably benefit from an hour on the rolling road.
