I’ve got a spare box I removed a couple of years ago when I purchased a free sat tv your welcome to It if you’d like it’s only sitting on the table in my spare room there’s also a remote with it and hand book. Not sure which model it is it just says Foxsat HD receiver.

I recommend getting one with a recorder. As well as the obvious ability to record to watch later it also lets you pause live tv and fast forward through the adverts.

We haven't been without a TV recorder since the Betamax days! I use our Freeview and Freesat recorders every day almost, much better to watch stuff when we want. I wasn't aware that Humax had stopped making Freesat boxes though, that is a shame.

Another vote for Humax, but do get one with record facility, you will not regret it. It allows you to zip through the adds on the programmes on the satellite channels where the adds seems to last for ever and ever and ever.

Very true! I used to have a Humax FreeVIEW recorder and when the ads started, a little symbol appeared on the LCD display, then when the ads finished it disappeared. So it was obviously detecting the ad breaks somehow, but there was no mention of this in the manual. I believe Freeview has some sort of policy against ad skipping

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commercial_skipping

We have an Echostar Freesat box (no longer made) which has a +20 seconds button which is great for skipping ads.

It is a surprise to me that Humax are stopping making Freesat boxes, there is some details about the decision here:

https://www.smartaerials.co.uk/blog/hum ... esat-boxes

They are still available on Amazon though, get one while stocks last? However, a word of warning! We have an EchoStar Freesat box that can no longer receive BBC HD channels. This is because the BBC changed the way they broadcast HD after EchoStar stopped providing firmware updates. The same thing happened recently with a Roku Smart TV box we have in another room. The BBC changed the way they stream iPlayer so the Roku can no longer display it. So if you are looking for long term future proofing it might be worth waiting?
