Best turntable decoder

#1

Post by pds24 »

Hi. I have a Bachmann motorised, indexed turntable. I need an 8-pin decoder to operate the turntable with DCC. Bachmann recommends (surprise, surprise) their 36-553 8-pin decoder; is there a better decoder to use?

HI
Firstly welcome to the forum. We hope you enjoy your visits.

Re the decoder for your Turntable... IMO as its not a loco, any will do and the Bachmann one should be fine. I can see little point in purchasing a high quality decoder to turn the motor of a TT. Cheap and cheerful would be my choice

Hi Brian. Thanks for both the welcome and the advice. Even though the turntable is indexed, I wanted each movement between indexes to be smooth.

36-553s (rebadged ESU lokpilots) are decent enough - can need tweaking for steam locos but perfectly smooth in diesels IME so should be perfectly acceptable for a TT

Thanks, Mike. I think that the Bachmann/ESU is probably the way to go.
