The Hay Inclined Plane at Coalport near Ironbridge, Shropshire

Travelling South to Ludlow in late October, I came across an example of a Canal Inclined Plane at Coalport, Shropshire. It qualifies as a railway although its primary purpose was the carrying of canal boats between the Shropshire Canal and the River Severn.

Some great drone footage there. Would love to have seen it in action, (the lift I mean, not the drone ). Would make an interesting model project.

The whole area of iron bridge is full of interest, it’s a world heritage site and has loads of museums from the Victorian Village to tar tunnel and of course all the industrial sites from ceramics, clay pies, glazed tiles to the first blast furnace and of cause the iron bridge. I buy an annual ticket each year for under £20 on one of the discount sites and go there regularly.
If any ones is in the area it’s well worth a long weekend and it’s not far from SVR at Bridgenorth and the cliff railway

A very full day can be had at Portsmouth Dockyard. The D-Day museum and the funfair are are the only attractions not covered on their annual ticket. We bought an Annual Ticket every year when my son was a lot younger.

Tony comments: "The site has been tidied up somewhat since I was first there, with more clearance of overgrowth at the summit, but has there been a landslip pushing the tracks sideways partway down? The Gorge area has been prone to landslips for years. ..... Much work has been done in recent years to landscape and stablilise the area."
