Electromagnet
Electromagnet
I have several Electromagnets around my layout, but one has failed, how do i test it with a multimeter. I know its only a coil of wire and it may have a break in it, but a test first to save me unwinding it would help. This is type i use. https://www.conrad.com/p/faller-161675- ... top-214797
Re: Electromagnet
Not an expert (as you well know Brian) but if it is just a coil of wire then a simple continuity test with a multimeter would prove the break?
T’other Brian will give the correct answer shortly.

Re: Electromagnet
Test for continuity as suggested. You may find its a joint failed where the leads are soldered on to the coil.
I've just seen that there is a 2 year warranty on them, which is pretty good.

Re: Electromagnet
It should show a few ohms on continuity Brian. You say you have several on your layout so check against a working one after disconnecting one end from external circuitry.
Most people are shocked when they find out how bad I am as an electrician
