Hello Mick,

After reading ERG's book I was in Coventry one day and remembered a Drysalters there, went in and asked if they sold Shellac flakes, they did, and the Orange ones, how much do you want, how much is it I said, it wasn't very much, so I said a pound in weight, got a funny look, he came back with a huge bag full, I've still got quite a lot left.

The prices seem to have gone up a bit Wtd thanks for finding that, if you can use the Orange rather than the Blonde it's easier to see on the card

Cheers - Jim

Hello all,

Most of the stuff ready to put together;
Image

The drawing and the photo don't quite match I've had to do a bit of one and another bit of the other, to get it half way reasonable. Reminds me of the draughtsman and the pattern maker at a foundry, "We can't make this!" shouted the pattern maker across the drawing office, followed by some expletives, followed by applause and laughter from the draughtsmen.

I'll start the assembly soon.

Cheers - Jim

Wow, that looks great - and all from card! Inspiring stuff especially as you are using an easily available material and I would guess, modelling quite cheaply (my favourite sort of modelling!).

Thanks Mick and Thanks Wtd,

Your right about the cheap that van is going to cost about £10, it's not going to look anything like RTR or a kit though. I like the 'used' look I get through being a bit sloppy with them.

Thanks the the 'skill' I never had any to start with just took Mr Grey's easiest instructions to make the simple stuff found on light railways. Perhaps more like experience through having a bit of patience and falling down every hole that opened up in front of me. They still do the above being a fine example.

Cheers both - Jim

Hello all,

Getting on with my van
Image

I tried blobbing PVA mixed with talcum powder it worked OK but it dried a bit too quickly. I then found that Seccotine lasted much longer, it does need to be quite thick.

I had to start again because I'd used the last of the Seccotine I bought in the 80's that had gone really thick, I suppose it would wouldn't it.

A few more things to straighten out and I might be able to start painting it.

Cheers - J
