Perhaps a silly question.
I’m using Colbalt S levers to control the points and have made a mimic diagram showing the layout of the area controlled by these levers. Some of these levers will be controlling two points of a crossover between tracks.
Is there an accepted way of numbering the point levers relating to the points? What did the prototype do? Is it by route or direction? Are all the levers relating to the sidings or yards all controlled together? Or is it random?

i beleive the basic method is to number according to the sequence in which a train might pass, in the 'Up' direction

I agree with Steve.
Levers were usually numbered in the sequence which trains approached them. Signals were also arranged so that when facing the signalbox diagram those for trains approaching from the left were numbered 1 upwards going right, and for trains approaching from the right they were numbered from the highest numbered lever downwards towards the left. The two sequences meeting somewhere near the middle.
