A friend sent me this link yesterday and I must say their layout looks great and the sound effects are well done too.

As you say, fantastic.

Whenever I see videos of such quality, of layouts with magnificent scenery it makes me realise that many who are doing layouts aren't really modelling railways, they have simply chosen to use railways as the vehicle for modelling. The quality of the background modelling is so impressive that it is a work of art in itself. Running trains gives it a purpose to exist.

Of course, not everyone is so keen on producing fantastic scenery. I, for one, am happy to have track to run locos on. The locos don't have to be accurate scale models of real locos as far as I'm concerned, my fun is placing the track, running a few trains then altering the track. I'm convinced I'll never get to the stage of realistic scenery for my layout, I don't aspire to it either.

I really do admire people’s modelling skills, there was so much detail and a joy to watch.

Fantastic scenic work. Must have taken years of time and pleasure to build. Wonderful ...

Very aspirational, if only I had that space!

It almost makes me want to have a rethink of a layout crammed with track and have a thin out in lieu of more scenery. Very inspirational.
