Anyone have any views on Graham Farish N Gauge?
I'm particularly interested in the multiple units, especially in the older livery, e.g. ERA 5-6. Can't explain why. Just like them!
Well built?
Reliable?
Value for money?
Would like to hear any thoughts, good and bad.
Graham Farish N gauge
Re: Graham Farish N gauge
Always a difficult question to answer, n gauge locos need more hands on tlc than other gauges, most makes have problems, lack of QC the main one, so expect to get the odd rouge, most problems are easily over come if your confident enough to have a go, Dapol and Farish the main offenders i find German models much more reliable.
Re: Graham Farish N gauge
Thanks for that, Brian.
Your words "Farish the main offenders" don't sound too good but "easily over come" gives me more hope!
I'm keen to get some good looking British models (diesels and DMUs) for a change and the Farish ones do look nice (in my opinion).
I have some German models (Fleischmann) and have found them to be really solid and reliable.

Re: Graham Farish N gauge
Of all my N-Gauge models probably 90% are Modern Farish models and of those 99% have been trouble free, on the other hand most of the Dapol models have had issues and most of those issues have been on out of the box models, most suffering from one of the following and sometimes more than one, noisy running because of poor gear alignment, poor electrical pickup, mainly due to contamination from the over use of transport grease, red LEDs failing, very fragile wiring, especially on their lighting connectors.
Mind you far more locos that have issues were second hand and have them because of some ham fisted owner damaged something.
Buy new if possible and buy Farish over Dapol if possible and you will be fine the vast majority of the time.

Re: Graham Farish N gauge
Thanks Paul,
When the time comes I intend to buy new and the diesels and DMUs from Farish are what interest me the most so I hope I won't be disappointed.
