Cattle dock

#1

Post by Davreb05 »

Hi everyone
I am trying to place a cattle dock on my layout
and would like to know if they could be accessed by
the cattle wagon first passing through a good shed.
Thanks David

It wants to be where the cattle can be loaded then leave soon afterwards without being held up by other types of wagons.
Obviously with good road access as well.

Hi
These are the 2 ideas I have at the moment.
The first picture shows cattle dock on front track with goods shed
behind, I would remove the front track after the rear of the catt!e wagon.
The second picture shows the cattle dock being accessed by
the cattle wagons being pushed through the goods shed.
Would appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks
David.

How much track did you have the other side
of the goods shed, would there need to be a lot, or
just room for a couple of wagons.

The siding by the cattle dock took 5 wagons, the one through the shed about 8 and the same for the one on the other side of the shed.

Enough for 1 1/2 wagons to pass through. Had to compromise due to space.

The cattle wagons didn’t go into the shed.

I found this track plan of Hale on the former Cheshire Lines Committee line from Manchester to Chester. The cattle dock area is separate from the goods shed. https://www.igg.org.uk/gansg/00-app-5/haleyard.jpg

I'm not an expert, but I would have thought that having to access a cattle dock via the goods shed would have been disruptive to the general operation of the goods shed.
