Quarry Hill Railway

#1

Post by Stese »

Hi all.

One of the few side effects of the current situation is that I've been afforded a few extra hours at home and thus have finally started my own railway.

As i don't have the space in the house, I'll be working in HO/OO in the garden, and will run the main line along the borders of the property.

I've started in a small shed, which will serve as a fiddle yard.

here are some pictures of the work so far... i'm hopefully finishing off the wiring and doing some tidying later, so will post a few additional pics after that.

feel free to ask questions!

I'll be back later with a progress report!

Great project. I see the beginnings of the quarry already. R-

Oh my. I must not let my eldest grandson see this thread.

The story is ----

My (late) Father-in-Law was Manager of a quarry in Northumberland.
My son used part of our garden as a miniature quarry. All the gear. Dumper trucks galore etc. etc.
My grandson now plays with his father's toys.

If my Grandson sees this thread he will want a railway line to his quarry (he has in our garden)

:?: :?: :!:

A railway in the garden to the quarry!!!

I need support from my grandson to get the permission past Mrs Glencairn.

Roll on the end of lockdown.

the previous occupants put down scalpings in some areas of the garden. its a mostly dust with larger stones. its compacts to a very flat surface apparently. The larger stones are a good size so i am picking these up to use as natural scenery. :)

so, picture update time.

Since the last picture I posted, I've now completed the track laying in the shed, and wired it to the control panel. I've also put a bit more weather protection on the outside section to help stop the damp getting in. There are a few minor tweaks to do, such as one or two track pins to go down, and 2 point motors to fit.

Anyway, enjoy the pictures!!

A shed as a fiddle yard! Now that’s what you call a fiddle yard!

Looks like I didn't do any more updates... oops!

following the last, i didn't make much more progress other than putting in the external control panel in.

as you can see... the panel tucks under the layout when not in use.

all that said... the external parts of the railway have been removed as the fence was looking insecure and needs to be replaced, along with the shed... focus now is on getting a new bigger shed and then the external layout will return.
