Adjustable multi angle vice.

Any observations would be appreciated:

I have looked at reviews which have narrowed the choice down to either;

Dremel, which seems overpriced but will integrate with the drill system but reported as not being overly strong.

Stanley which seems Ok but again reported as not being overly strong.

Other vice reports seem to indicate failures at the ball locking points or stripped threads when grip is needed.

That said I do try to treat my tools with care, and if I want / need to take stilsons and a lump mallet to any thing, I am kitted out for that

Reading about them on another forum the general opinion is the more you spend the better the product. These come highly recommended. Several to choose from.

I think the ball and socket part is always a weak point.

Aldi recently had some hobby vices available, the suction one is useless go for the edge clamp version. I have the latter and it’s been OK but then I never put it under strain really having a Record engineers vice for any robust work.

I agree, the suction simply didn't work for me. I bought their edge clamp too but find it too small for my needs.

I have the Stanley bright yellow one, and am well content. Does what i need.

I've had one of the Aldi ones (Workzone I think) for a few years and have to say I've never had any problems. Get the clamp on not the suction. I've used it under quite a bit of pressure in the past and it didn't budge.

Either versions are fine provided they are used sensibly. I have both. The suction version works well but my bench top is covered by a sheet of acrylic. Both work well to hold models while doing light work on them - very good stand for painting.
For anything heavier I use the ‘big vice’ in the garage - that has a built in anvil and has withstood plenty of hammering.

After viewing some pretty awful, and a few decent video reports. ( What is the point of video the opening a the box when it seems fairly obvious that the presenter has little idea what a vice / vise is )

I have decided to go for the Stanley, compared with the Dremel.
The double slider for the jaws seems more stable
The vice has more weight so provides a little more stability.
The tightening of the bench screw and ball have metal T bars rather than plastic nuts.
The vice seems to be designed by an engineer rather than a Sales Concept !

The Dremel is a little bit more versatile as the vice can be taken off the angle adjuster, and used on the bench.
Also a Dremel drill can be easily mounted on the angle adjuster.

That said, the Dremel could be held in the Stanley vice securely.

our of interest, how much is stanley one now. When i bought mine, in France it was in a sale. I paid about £15.
