has anyone tried a Gaugemaster 8 pin DCC90 Ruby series decoder.
Just need locos to go forwards and backwards.
Can not afford the better ones.

Re: decoder
No sorry. I now only use Zimo or Lenz Standard decoders as I've got feed up with poor performance of most other makes!
Re: decoder
Why not go for the Zimo range, which includes a model for all plug types? They're £20 each so cheaper than Gaugemaster Ruby. They have superb performance and reliability, which includes short circuit and overload protection and which I suspect the Ruby does not have. The 8-pin version is the MX600R.

Re: decoder
Firstly, I would expect anything that Gaugemaster put their name to to be more than adequate. However, I think you can get a Zimo or similar quality decoder for the same price.
If you are really on a budget you can look at LaisDCC. I have a couple of these and they do the job. But the last decoder I bought was Zimo and they are a cut above. Both in the build quality and how the programme.
