Painting and Weathering Service
Re: Painting and Weathering Service
I completed the other project this morning - repairing some glue damage and renumbering an LMS Black 5.

I removed the old numbers and carefully sanded down the traces of glue, then resprayed the cabsides and roof inside the red lining. The smokebox received a coat of weathered black to simulate heat discoloration.

New numbers applied, along with shed plate and smokebox numbers and an overall coat of satin varnish to tie it all together.
Unfortunately the glue used on the cab had discolored the cab windows so new windows were made from some spare Perspex.
Also added the brake rodding and front steps and repaired the fallplate

Really nice. Great job....
And the Lord said unto John “Come forth and receive eternal life”, but John came fifth and won a toaster!

Only just seen the pictures of the finnished tenders. Wow.. They look fantastic Steve. I cant wait seeing them back on their chassis cuppled up to the loco.

Another fine job Steve..........you are certainly putting the hours in at the moment between fine detailed work like this, to wood-working and layout planning - exhausted watching you, but admiring the progress and quality throughout.

Next project.
I’ve been servicing a few old locos for a friend and have convinced him that his Wrenn 2-6-4T deserves repainting. It started life as the LMS version but had been repainted (with Humbrol enamel) into GWR livery. Wrenn did produce the loco in that colour scheme so although not prototypical, it’s not ‘wrong’ to repaint in green.
The paint has been stripped using Mr Muscle oven cleaner - two hours in a plastic bag brought it back to this condition. It’s having a second dose on the top of the side tanks to get into some of the moulded detail and will then get a coat of primer.
Final colours will be GWR green and two shades of black before the transfers are applied. Trying a new approach with them as I have ordered a bespoke set of 3D printed water slide numberplates - number 8320 as originally used by Wrenn.
