This ship is due to depart tomorrow from Southampton - they have just moved it from one birth to another.There is a 200,000ton container carrier due in later today.

I thought I'd read it was leaving today - but it's tomorrow. The port manager obviously asked the captain to move the ship - it was birthed round the corner this morning - like moving a car :lol:

One thing I found interesting was the fact that the distance from the park to the ship was over a mile.

can only suggest that this thread read How NOT to turn a 150000 ton container ship. !! Not knowing what's happened I I can only guess that a strong wind blew her off course

This will end up with a big bill - the owners may well declare GENERAL AVERAGE whereby the costs are shared between the owners, owners of cargo and other interested parties. It's nearly 50 years since I had to deal with this so I'm slightly rusty. The Hornby site is slowing down - no-one has mentioned that my belated xmas present is even later.

Just been watching the link in post #1. Lovely morning with container cranes busy loading another huge ship. As this one is leaving the UK one wonders how many of those containers are empty!
