I have now checked the main driving gear on the central driving wheel and it moves freely so this is the problem. I think I will try and contact Hornby to see if they can help.

Can’t remember if the cog is a tight fit or glued in place.

I have just spoken to Hornby. It looks as though this item is an interference fit or press fit. It should not turn too freely. Hopefully I will be able to send the item to them for repair.

Failing that, you might consider a very short point-to-point layout. :o
