I agree. If it says ‘compatible' it means it can be converted.

Steve M wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 11:20 am There are three basic conventions with DCC.

DCC fitted : decoder already fitted by the manufacturer to the DCC socket.

DCC ready : DCC socket fitted but only with a blanking plug which needs to be swapped for a decoder of the owner’s choice.

DCC compatible : no decoder or plug fitted by the manufacturer but a decoder may be hardwired without significant modification of the model if there is sufficient space.
Thanks for the explanation Steve, I was aware of the first two definitions but it is the first time I have come across the third. Well it looks like we have answered the OPs query.

Maybe we've answered, but the original states "DCC ready but no socket." It's unclear or misleading or both!

Either the OP was mislead or he misread the listing, the fact remains that the Farish set 370-140 was never a DCC Train set but a DC one. The OP has returned to read the thread but as yet not commented.

The "DCC compatible but no socket" is on the Hattons website:

Yes indeed. You said DCC Ready which means it should have a socket. DCC Compatible just means it can be converted using wires and a soldering iron.

And specific to the current GF 08 (as opposed to old J94 chassis one) there are various guides on how to dcc it such as this 21 min Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrycqWavv_A
