Interesting Sightings.

A couple of years ago I happened to be passing and called in on some people I know who live in a little Welsh town called Kidwelly.
Kidwelly has two rivers, the Gwendraeth Fach and the Gwendraeth Fawr, the larger being the Fawr (Hence its name) flows right through the centre of the small town and alongside its larger then expected castle.
Now the river meets the sea at Kidwelly so it is tidal for a good mile or so inland. It is a beautiful river which passes its ancient quay near the railway which spans the river next to what is left of its station. (It once had station buildings and a footbridge etc).

The people I know sat me down and the lady started talking about something unusual that she had seen. She was up early at 0500am and it was daylight. No one else was around. The tide was in and so the river was in flood and perfectly calm almost like glass... She saw an adult duck on the river so while she watched the duck she saw a wake of something large under the water heading straight towards the duck at great speed.
Within no time something large came up, swollowed the duck whole and dissapeared.

Now though the event happened so quick that she had hardly had time to take in what it was, she was adimant that she believed that it was an aligator, as she had been to the USA and handled a young aligator and had watched them as over there where she went it was a tourist attraction.

Alligators in Kidwelly? It seems a bit far fetched to take in, and no dissrespect to the lady, she was known to have a little too much wine, but there was something about this that rang true. Several dogs had dissapeared and others had seen "Glimpses" too.
The dignatories and officialdom were keen to play it down as only a few brief sightings of "Something" had been seen either close to dawn or dusk and only by single individuals where there were no other witnesses. In the past there had been a mystery sea bear caught and killed at the 9 mile long beach called Cefn Sidan and the bear fur and skin adorned a whole wall of a farm for a great many years. While all the locals knew about this, no one from away knew that unusual creatures had been found. The sea bear was large and it was said to have stood on its hind legs and was around twice the height of a man. Nobody knows how it got there, and the fur remains that had adorned the wall had eventually rotted and it was taken down and disposed of many years later.
But this new creature was something which was not taken seriously. The 9 mile beach with its blue flag award is known as one of Europes top beaches so though the few locals who had seen this mystery creature and tried to tell others to be careful and not to swim at local beaches or in local rivers were largely being ignored and hushed up...

But today I happened to be looking on the internet and you know when you look for one thing but other almost unrelated things come up? Well I saw something in French. Me and languages do not get on together, but something sparked my curiosity, and with the help of google translate, I was taken aback at what I saw.... And here it is...

This was found not that far away. Around 15 miles? While the residents on the Gower may not know about what had been going on at Kidwelly, the lady I know and what she saw and her being convinced without doubt that it was a large adult aligator, I am also convinced, that the very same creature has been washed up on the nearby Gower beach after having survived for a while on ducks, dogs, cats and maybe the odd human? Who knows!
