Funicular railway

There was a funicular doing the exhibitions a few years ago - I saw it at the Pickering show. It was featured in one of the magazines but can’t remember which one.

I have thought about this before but not done any experimenting as too busy on other stuff. I don't see the haulage and control systems as too much trouble but my concern would be keeping the wheels on the track! Also one would have to scratch build an angled chassis to sit the car on.

Chassis doesn’t need to be angled just the body that sits on it. I suppose a couple of coach bogies would suffice. Could be an interesting project

That's what I thought. Never built a brass kit before and don't fancy starting now. Now if it were plastic...................

My first thought reading through the topic was of a strong electromagnet running on a parallel track underneath the model track, kit¡lling two birds with one stone as the magnet would both drag the carriages up and down and also pull them towards itself hence 'sticking' to the rails.

Each car could have its own polarity but one issue would be to hold them apart where the magnet units cross ...

PS, there are a couple of funiculars in Barcelona and lateky I've watched aneat video on the Clee Hills branch line that effectively had a funicular for getting to the quarries.

Whoops, memory bad again, watching the video once again it was steam operated inclined plane - silly me!
