Re: The Radius Island Railway
How about a model roundabout with no entry or exits?

There is something quite soothing watching that video. One challenge that could takes hours would be to adjust the speed of the locos so they stayed in sync.

I can't do that because I use just one controller for the four tracks.

I may be showing up my lack of electrical knowledge here, but, could you not put variable resisters on the feeds to the individual lines to alter the speeds?
Re: The Radius Island Railway
Of course I can do it. But I am very happy with one controller. Maybe one day...
Re: The Radius Island Railway
Not really, unless they are wire wound and are high current rated. Conventional potentiometers are only rated at a few milliamps normally they will quickly burn out if used to try and control a locos speed.JohnSmithUK wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 8:33 am I may be showing up my lack of electrical knowledge here, but, could you not put variable resisters on the feeds to the individual lines to alter the speeds?
A fixed value wire wound 10 watt resistor of the required Ohm value would reduce a track voltage, but be prepared for it to get hot! Plus its likely to cause issues with lower speed settings. The problem is the applied volts alter on DC from 0 to over 12 which in turn alters the wattage (VxA=W)

What starts out as a very simple bit of fun turns into a major electronics project.

Think and do what you want folks, I keep my single controller. That's all !
