Heljan 00 GWR Diesel Railcar
I have recently puchased this railcar and without prior knowledge obtained a Bachmann 36-557 21 pin decoder to fit in it. It does appear though that the functions on my Dynamis controler give me limited control over the lighting. Having now read the instructions I need a ESU lokPilot V5 21 pin decoder, but I can't relate that to a non sound version. Any help out there? Cheers Keith.

I have the same model and had problems trying to get all the functions to work with a Rails 21 pin. I contacted Helgan UK support and was told it was designed around and only worked with the ESU decoder. There is a non-sound version available but trying to find one is nigh on impossible (or was at the time). Try Coastal DCC in Ipswich, they may be able to help supply or suggest an alternative that has enough re-mapping capability.Keith Berry wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:26 pm I have recently puchased this railcar and without prior knowledge obtained a Bachmann 36-557 21 pin decoder to fit in it. In the end I decided not to bother and now run mine on a DC section of my layout.

The railcar is set up for an ESU decoder, ESU 59629 being the appropriate non-sound decoder. DC Kits have them

Further to my query about the lighting funtions on the Heljan GWR railcar, I have now received and fitted an ESU Lokpilot 59619 decoder from DCCKits. I have all working lights, but was under the impression that the cab lights, red lights and top lights were directional, same as with the lower lights, but they are not. Am I wrong?

F0: Directional Lower Front lights.
F1: Top Marker Light (Front)
F2: Top Marker Light (Rear)
F3: Not Used.
F4: Not Used.
F5: Red Light (Front)
F6: Red Light (Rear)
F7: Cab Light (Front)
F8: Cab Light (Rear)
F9: Passenger Cabin Lights.
The red lights were not actually used - the GW had no confidence in them and required the railcars to run with an oil tail lamp which were considered more reliable.

It sounds like you may need to alter another decoder setting. As mentioned earlier I run my railcar on DC and the cab and direction lamps change correctly with direction of travel.Keith Berry wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:32 pm Further to my query about the lighting funtions on the Heljan GWR railcar, I have now received and fitted an ESU Lokpilot 59619 decoder from DCCKits. Would the cab lights actually be on when moving ? The driver would what proper visibility the same as car drivers drive in the dark
