Great pictures. It is interesting in the first picture that the loco number is painted on and not a number plate. Must have been close to withdrawal.

I suspect these Panniers were withdrawn by the LMR when they took over the West Midland area. The painted number, as you said, is an indicator of the date. You couldn't have a 'mass' clear-out, there were so few steam engines in the area but they all went at the same time. The surviving 56xx 0-6-2Ts were in the West Midlands and they went at the same time

The panniers always remind me of a brick with wheels. Interesting design when you think about it.

The Branch line I mentioned earlier about travelling on through the tunnels went through to the Austin works at Longbridge it carried freight for the factory there plus workers it also served another large engineering firm called Walter Somers where my father and brother worked. On the line was a very nice looking bridge now long gone so I put a photo on for interest.

Great pictures - When I first saw them I thought it was of a layout and thought 'that's fantastic' and 'the usually high standard has been maintained' and 'as usual I can't tell if it is the real thing or a model' and then I realised it was of the 'real thing'! Still great photos!

I wish I could model to make it look that realistic.
I wanted to model old hill junctiontion for a while from the both tunnels to the Bumble line but I don’t ever think I’ll get around to it, mind that viaduct would look very good on any layout.

Numberplates were often removed in those day to stop them being pilfered by collectors.
