Is it right that 0 gauge can turn in 6ft or is it more like 8ft or wider? I would imagine due to the couplings one would need wider, but somewhere I heard something about 6ft is possible... Unless I mussread and they mean radius?

My curves are Peco 2nd radius radius which are just over 40 inches, 3ft 5 inches. This with an 0-6-0 loco.

That would be a 6ft 10 inch diameter circle.

I do have a new little loco ready for narrow gauge conversion and this little thing is tiny! Heavy too despite its play worn plastic body as it is heavier then the Triang loco next to it which I included to show its size.
While it was made to run on 16v DC, I tried it on my old third amp Hornby trainset controller which I use for testing DC locos and it ran fine and certainly no slower then todays shunters run.

The challenge I have is to rebuild it into a 7mm NG loco and yet keep its lovely character!

Haha. Ok. Those things cost a lot these days!

I have a rake of Lima 100T tankers somewhere. They were not cheap when I bought them but in the days when I used to see them they were pulling around 11 or them. Sometimes 9 or 10 but usually 11 with a class 47 and if not a 37... And later in the late 1980's a class 56.
When the class 60's came along we saw the lengths increase to average 29 of them and then later up to 42 or 43 at a time could be seen, though usually there were around 37 passing with either a class 60 or a class 66. I am assuming the sidings were lengthened when privatisation came along... But some of those modern locos can pull! That is a lot of weight in them to pull or try to slow down!
