My painting activities in the shed provides plenty of waiting time for things to dry.
Putting this to use, I hacked down a large ‘ground cover’ conifer (now 6’ tall :? ) this week then realised that I may be able to use the tips of the shoots as clumps of ferns.

They will turn brown as they dry so I gave them a quick blast of Humbrol grass green before planting.
Close up they look a bit like a pineapple plantation but at a distance there is a passing resemblance to ferns.

They look fine - there just part of the scene. I think many "small" items on a layout just help create the overall picture, unless it is something you are particularly interested in, therefore looking far more closely, it's all just part and parcel of the layout. Great job.

Slow recovery and a woolly head means these simple steps took three days to make and paint - and each one is only four parts!

In another spurt of activity I planted a couple more of my garden prunings.

They look good. I needed some steps for a signal box and I ordered a steps kit from Ratio and when they arrived they were a terrible kit and I ended up tossing it in the bin. I must do that one day and find another kit or build another signal box :)
