These locos never much appealed to me, but that really is a lovely model.

Thanks for the comments. I did think about the M/N for the whole weekend - should I - shouldn't I Then thought why not. I am not starting a collection of M/N's in their original format - really!!

First attempt on a small field with the static grass (summer beige) - I think this will be taken up, and something a bit greener tried. Not happy with it at the moment - may have to attend evening classes Have I been a bit heavy handed with the grass??

Personally, I think the shade is spot on. Possibly a little thick but it looks good to me.

For what it is worth I always sprinkle very fine sieved garden soil across my static grass as it tones it down a shade or two and creates variations / shadow effect……….. a covering of hair spray usually keeps it safely in place.

Ps - I think your small field looks pretty good to me, but perhaps a few bushes or small trees would break it up it up a little, or a tractor or old piece of farm machinery just to distract the eye.

Thanks Steve and Richard - this was the first attempt on the layout, and there was this small area that needed "something". I had already got some W/S ground cover on the site, so just sprayed on the layering spray, added some 2mm green followed by more layering spray and the 4mm WWS Summer Beige - which I think I did over do it somewhat. I'll get some hairspray for future use and do some more trials using mixed greens. A few bushes, and something to catch the eye.

The colour looks good - perhaps add small areas of a slightly greener colour and some brown areas as bald patches. It may be a bit thick. Could it be rubbed off a bit in places? Not sure if this is possible. I too am starting out on my first area of static grass so am learning myself. If I’ve made silly comments, please ignore them!

Mick, you are on the right track about varying the thickness although rubbing it off won’t work (tried it, failed).Bandit Mick wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 8:42 pm The colour looks good - perhaps add small areas of a slightly greener colour and some brown areas as bald patches. I find the way to do it is to put down a 2mm layer over the whole area using basing glue. I let it dry overnight then hoover up the excess before using a layering spray to add a thin to medium layer of a 4mm burnt grass.
The trick then is to use more layering spray to add thicker patched to create variations of shade and texture.
That’s the position I have got to on my layout but I had some more fibers and fine coloured foam to create wild flower tufts when I get some time. I also hope to add some poppies and buttercups to the lower level fields and some white cotton grass to the fellsides.
I can see it in my head - the question is whether I will be able to see it in the photos.

Hi Steve - "I can see it in my head - the question is whether I will be able to see it in the photos". I think that's the problem we all have from time to time.
