Simon, follow the link in post #3. There are links to the original Luke Towan videos on that page.
The thicker clumps are 6mm fibres while the more straggly clumps are 10mm - both supplied by War World Scenics, who also have some good instructional clips on their website.

Oh silly me - as usual! :)

I found the second link from the sellers web page the more informative but from my lack of knowledge still didn't really understand what was going on. Luckily thanks to Youtube and the fact that I'm in Spain so get different link algorithmss from here I got not only a simple video showing the modelling technique - a must for me - but also an ingenious devis¡ce made by adapting a an electronic fly swatter, which naturally are highly popular here and cheap as chips from the Chinese bazar shops. It's in the subsequent video for me but here's the link in case that doens't work for you.

Note that although it's in Spanish there are English subtitles :)

I had discounted the idea of doing this given the difficulty of obtaining electronic parts for me but with the fly swat option I may give it a go. How do people find the effect in 4 mm scale, what I've seen so looks a bit overcale?

I went the converted fly swat route. Very straightforward to do and easy to use. I made the slight mistake in using a tea strainer which doesn’t hold much material, deposits it over a small area at a time and, if you’re too vigourous, there can be some overspill. R-
Young at heart. Slightly older in other parts.

Simon, Barry is starting his static journey on his Wykeham thread - worth watching his progress. My West Orton thread has many photos showing the results of my static efforts.
Roger, I used a fly swat to repair a detail static applicator that had failed. It’s a little underwhelming of I’m honest, but having learnt from this build I may attempt a modification to link the front mesh to the backplate. I also have a spare -ve ion generator which may be used to replace the fly swat innards.

They certainly put a few volts up any fly that dares enter my house! BuZZZZZ - Poof! :o

I have a home-made fly swat conversion with mesh tea strainer, and I agree it is under powered for static grass applications.

I thought about obtaining a Gaugemaster GM144 which is a rebadged version of the more expensive Noch model, until I saw the price! https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/magen ... gm144.html Even sending them free copies of two books didn't help!! Oh well back to the "Puffer Bottle" when needed. :o
