Not really, unless they are wire wound and are high current rated. Conventional potentiometers are only rated at a few milliamps normally they will quickly burn out if used to try and control a locos speed.

A fixed value wire wound 10 watt resistor of the required Ohm value would reduce a track voltage, but be prepared for it to get hot! Plus its likely to cause issues with lower speed settings. The problem is the applied volts alter on DC from 0 to over 12 which in turn alters the wattage (VxA=W)

Currently I'm working on a second level for my layout. There will be five trains running at the same time...with only one controller ! :lol: Please be patient for the pics, the second level is in the paintshop.

By popular request here is the photo! As usual it is not railway modelling but I'm very pleased with the result. All the trains run very well and I have a lot of fun with my five tracks layout. As I hadn't enough Hornby R605 curves, I used Trix C-track curves. But I'll buy theses curves asap.
