The heads are the top of drawing pins. On some O gauge kits they use drawing pins for buffers.

Can turn them down to the desired size as well if they will take it. Some may not survive the turning but they are cleap to buy so is not an issue.

I use them on my narrow gauge by reshaping the top to act as a hook.

I had one of those, but in 00 - Hornby Dublo back in the fifties. It was one of the first models HD made of plastic. Very nice - adds a bit of colour to the layout.

I think Dapol still produce a OO salt van? Which I guess is the original Hornby Dublo / Wrenn moulding?? Nice little van, I wonder if they actually existed in yellow in real life?

Of course the wagon in the first picture could have been painted to look like the model.

Latest addition to the railway "room" - a rechargeable vacuum cleaner from LIDL - £14.99. It will handle wet and dry and appears to have plenty of suction - I doubt I will use it for "wet" vacuuming. Slight downside is that the instructions say it needs five hours to be fully charged and will then operate for twenty two minutes, however I am not intending it to be used for normal domestic vacuuming. It charges when sitting in its bracket.
