A question to assist with a railway modelling era 5 project, please;

tanker wagons - would they all still be the same supplier eg Esso, or would a rake run mixed named?

Does anyone have a reference I can use? I’m well briefed on mixed freight and braked/unbraked etc, but tanker configurations have me flummoxed? I also know about later eras, and also era 5 use of a box van between the loco and tankers etc?

That is an interesting question! I do not think that mixed rakes of tankers would be common except perhaps in marshalling yards or around fuel depots. The main use for these would be transporting oil products from a refinery to a fuel distribution depot. So i imagine the tankers would all belong to either operator of the refinery and/or the depot.

I doen't remember seeing much oil traffic around Mansfield.
It was mostly coal although there was a cattle dock out side the Midland station and a goods shed.
The Great Central line had its sidings along Great Central Road and Baums Lane, with the Fish train coming through weekdays, but again mostly coal traffic.
