I replaced all mine in 1990 ( myself, and a few skips ) . Money well spent Barry, you cant take it with you. :)

The house was a new-build in 1976/77, and we have lived in it from new. Asbestos in your soffits is not a problem, even now, as long as you don't start drilling holes, breaking chunks off etc.
Having decided against downsizing to a flat by the sea, we decided to "future proof" the house the best we could. So all the double glazing on the front of the house was replaced a couple of weeks ago, the soffits and gutter work should be finished next week, new hot water tank (now stainless steel) on Monday and the decorator is booked for October. May have the rear double glazing replaced next year - in the front of the house many of the glass panels had blown (condensation between the panes). As was said "you can't take it with you" :D

we are having Kitchen window and 3 pane Lounge units replaced next week. Over here, most windows are still wood, so very simple, and cheap.
