Sandy Hills The new layout

The way I look upon it is. As I did it at least I have a rough idea where everything goes. Hopefully. Next pictures will be the start of the senics and platforms. Still got some wiring to finnish first. About a weeks worth. I must admit the garden has got in the way of the railway in last few weeks.

This week have nearly finnished wiring of section switches. Hope I can figure out whitch switch does what. (will be labaling them) Today took delivery of a Metcalf stone platform kit Think I will need 2 of them see how it goes and a pack of plaster of paris to start moulding some stone cliffs to insert into the corner hillside and around and about.. . Have never built a Metcalf station kit before. Hope it goes well. I used to build my platforms from small pieces of battern topped with a platform of hardboard covered with verious printed modeling papers. I thoiught I would try the metcalf kit maybe it will be kwicker. Will put up more pictures when get bit more done.
After doing the wiring under BB am going down stairs now for some pain killers, my lags are killing me.

Had the opportunity to revisit Sandy Hills. A strong focus on an era with a fleet that appears homogenic, as opposed to a little this and little that (a tendency that I've wandered into). Again, a strong showing of passenger rail service, which is a distinctly British flavor). Lots of broad reaches for extended runs.

At last most of the wiring is done and main line is up and running and tested and it works
Had problem with Loco depot. It was dead when wired to controllers. It was one wire connection causing it. A wire was put in a terminal block without stripping the end. Dumbo.
So soon will be able to start work on the platforms and senics. Looking forward to that.

For the largest majority of layouts I've seen in the US, platforms are not done. This is a British "thing," and I most enjoy it. Spurning me to do similar things on Henley. Challenging, but in a welcome way. Learned how to properly position a "large" terminus perpendicular to the stub tracks, got a nice deal on a 3D printed version that had all the right Victorian characteristics that would enable it to serve in 1867 or 1967, only to find that it had been cut to 1:100 architectural scale; in short, appears absurdly dainty. Back to the manufacturer it shall go.

Not done much lately been enjoying the summer and the garden. Had bit of an acciddent recently and cracked 3 ribs and lot of other pains to. Life happens. The Hill in the corner has had an undercoat of green ready to be covered with lots of diferent colours of flock to blend it in with the hills behind.

Reaching over to add the flock is good physio therapy.

An American chum insisted on building an HO layout 16 x 16 feet. We tried to dissuade him, but he was firm. To reach the middle, a Peter Pan stage device to suspend one by wires would be handy. Failing that, an underhand pitch to land scenic items and structures is a handy talent.
