Any idea on manufacturer of the loco?

Ok Brian im going to test the module now, just to see if by any remote chance its a decoder, my money is on a reverse unit, i think this loco has been converted to run on the marklin system, loco was originally Jouef.

A guess,
As it looks like a stud-contact loco and therefore probably runs on the Marklin AC system the unit may be a reverser.
BUT the motor looks like a DC one with what looks like a magnet so will not run on AC
The diodes may be to rectify the AC current to DC and the other unit may be a reverser or a DCC decoder.

Yes Colin the black unit turns out to be a decoder of czech origin i believe.

Ok my findings on todays loco repair, French made loco,bought in Switzerland, converted from 2 rail to 3 rail and Dcc fitted by someone, the black block turned out to be a Czech made decoder, i have now converted it back to 2 rail, i encountered various problems throughout the day with it, sorting out the pick up polarity took a little head scratching, but all is well now. Back to the building job i think tomorrow. Thanks to Brian and Colin for there replies.

It is not a Zero1 decoder.
Sinolta (If I've spelt it correct), Maplin, H&M, Airfix and a few others did command control systems. H&M ran with the same language as Zero 1.

Well done. There was a lot of surface mounted components visible through the compound. The three wires initially shown before opening the overall cover through me, as old Zero 1 and MTC systems all used three wires.
Never heard of the decoder make? Yet alone it has two red and two black wires!! Out of interest only what does the decoders other side look like??
How well does it run now its two rail DC operation?

Perfect runner now, i kept the diode board intact so all the lights work too, the outer two track pick ups had been joined together which simply needed removing, but a second jumper wire was hidden causing it not to run which i eventually found and removed, the decoder was also a new one to me, never to old to learn.
