Is Hornbys 9F as bad a runner as shone on Sams Trains, reminds me of Bachmanns Peppercorns A1 look great but wouldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding .DougieD

Yes, the carpet floor does not look brilliant, but then, it reflects the limitations of space that many modelers battle with, routinely. What stands out for me is that he does not take in any of these items as "gifts" from manufacturers, and as such is unhindered in his analysis, which is methodical. Without mentioning a name, another reviewer of the gentler sex, takes free donations from manufacturers, runs them about a splendidly conceived layout, and gushes how wonderful said item is. For my money, I'll settle for Kook and his Carpet. I've saved a lot of hard earned money and grief by following Sam's Reviews. I will pay up for quality.

There you go two differing views, that’s what a forum is for.

Do you really reckon he buys the locos, if so he must have won the lottery. :D

He also reckons the Bachmann 9F is rubbish too.

Try a different video of the Hornby new 9F such as this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhMoH6ngRXE.

Looks a good runner to me!

Well I have owned the Bachmann and the previous Hornby version and they were very powerful. The bloke is an idiot.
He reviewed a Dapol O gauge 14XX that I had just purchased and everything he said about it was absolute rubbish. Spent 10 minutes confused because the loco comes screwed to a piece of MDF, completely muddled up his brain cell.

Sam appeals to his drongo followers who provide him with a pay by tick income.
I find him mildly amusing as one would a court jester, playing the gullible crowd, but I certainly would not take his advice as gospel.
E.g. run your locos through water, over-volt them to find maximum speed, etc.
