Re: Montgreenan
Been a very busy boy over the past week or so and made a lot of progress on my tunnelling project.......not quite finished yet, but more about finishing touches now and trying not to balls-up when I have done so far, especially when I come to tarmac the road surface.
Pls see the following photo's for state of play as of this evening - might get some lines side fencing done tomorrow night before heading to York with Mrs HD for a couple of days, including some free time for me at NRM......chance to get up close and personal to a Western Hydraulic for the first time !
Cheers - Richard

Excellent work Richard, just needs some sheep to keep that grass in check.

Re: Montgreenan
Lovely scenery. The way the two tunnels enter the hillside looks great. Great work Richard.

Re: Montgreenan
Hi Folks,
Been up to my ears in Metcalfe Castle kits this past couple of weeks as I look to finally complete 360 degrees around my Montgreenan (and Portencross) layout........I had been looking for a way to merge the countryside back into the town and at the same time deal with different height profiles and a roadbridge to nowhere. I hit upon the idea of a walled city and City gates, but unfortunately the kit I wanted to use from Metcalfe did not fit the bridge, so I went with another approach and cobbled together some custom arrangements to address the step down from the bridge to track level.
In the process I decided to go the whole hog and add a stately home and castle gates / walls to merge against the backscene.........for sure still some work to be done on the scenic side (to hide the cobbled together bits !), but envisage a neat grass slope down from the castle wall to near track side, although I will probably add a fence adjacent to the track.
I also wanted to share a few photos that I could not previously upload of the farm, tunnels and pond area - see the link to my Montgreenan Layout Album

Once this section is finished the main layout build will be complete, but there are plenty of small jobs to do and things to tidy up from some of my earlier efforts when I started the layout "x" years ago..........might even play trains as I am missing my Diesel hydraulics ( on Portencross) which were packed away at the start of the summer as I switched back to the BR Blue era.
Hope everybody is well and enjoying their Model Railway.
Cheers Richard

Re: Montgreenan
I think you need to move the railway to make more room for a more extensive castle!
Looks very good, the big gateway arch has hints of York city walls about it.

Well spotted Steve - My recent visit to York was the inspiration for the City gates…….need to find something as a back scene for inside the arch or perhaps a mirror.
Also want to locate a couple of shields or coats of arms to fix the the walls, but want something 3D……. Any suggestions anybody ?
