Christmas Lights
Re: Christmas Lights
Can’t see the point of decorating the house outside when you can’t see it from the inside. Showing off to the neighbours you can afford the electric.

Re: Christmas Lights
I can see our outside lights from the inside, and of course when I am outside.

Re: Christmas Lights
While I have not been out much to look, I don't think many people do their external Christmas lights these days due to the costs of electricity.
Going back a decade ago, many people with council houses would put them up to try and outdo each other! But very few do now as the last few years there has been a steady decline. Most private houses did not have them though. Was mostly a council house thing in my area.
It is an odd thing though, as one can go past street after street of private residential areas with hardly a Christmas light there (Apart from internal Christmas lights on a tree), but then one would turn into another street and almost every house would have them in attempts to out do their neighbours! It was odd because those that did would go to great lengths to have more lights and features than anyone else!

Re: Christmas Lights
Plenty appearing around us now. Most of them are LEDs and use little power, mine run off a battery or USB supply.
We were having a birthday meal in a nice restaurant the other day and my friend said there’s no money about you know. The place was absolutely packed.

Re: Christmas Lights
Near where I worked a guy covered his house with lights and filled the garden with all sorts of light up decorations every year, after a number of years the local council found he had them all wired into a street light out side his house. Now I am not advocating doing the same but with the energy crisis I suspect a few might be tempted to do the same.
We have our outside lights on now confined to a run along the garden fence and around the garage roof plus a couple of laser projectors and that is about as tacky as I get. It is nice to come home in the dark to see a bit of cheer about the house and I know it always gives a welcome cheer to the little old dear next to us to see them lit and I do get some thanks from the local dog walkers as the lights on the fence help light up the snicket that runs along the side of our garden to the fields.

Re: Christmas Lights
I know some people who decorate the outside of the house in a big way do so in order to collect for a charity. There is at least one I know of in Ipswich so good luck to them.
Most people are shocked when they find out how bad I am as an electrician
