A good starter system is the NCE Powercab, if you can find one in this period of component supply problems. It lacks a computer interface but is available as an add on I believe. It is upgradeable to a very comprehensive system if needed.

The Hornby Select would also be a possible but I think it's over priced now.

The NCE is a handheld unit while the Select is meant to stand on the baseboard.

The NCE looks like a good option, I’ll start hunting!
