Many thanks everyone for your replies to my reverse running problem. Being technologically challenged I went for a mechanical solution - I swapped over the grey and orange wires, and with a deep breath and steady hands, re-soldered them. My loco now runs smoothly and very very slowly in the direction chosen. It will move almost imperceptively on speed step 2 over insulfrog points. If you like simple industrial locos with superb slow speed control then I can definitely recommend it.
