Another of my favourite locomotives is the 45xx class no 5541 is seen here with a B set. It is the Bachmann model and ran superbly straight out of the box. I have added a crew and fire irons on top of the tank on the fireman’s side. I have painted the injector pipes rusty colour and added some real coal to the bunker. Small additions like this personalise the model.

Here we see no 5637 again this time on a parcels train. She is also used on some of the heavier stone trains from the quarries up the branch. It is the Bachmann model and she runs very well using a hand held feed back controller. The only trouble I had at first was the pony truck would sometimes derail running in either direction, lubrication and more running has cured it completely.

Please note I am in too deep to go the DCC route, I am also profoundly deaf so it’s pointless fitting it as I can’t here it properly despite wearing two hearing aids.

Now for something a little different we are going to come a little more up to date and feature the BR blue period. I like now and then have a change from steam power and run diesel powered locos. I don’t get too modern, the early days of the transition mean I can use my steam age rolling stock.
This is the Bachmann class 08 no 08021 in the blue livery seen shunting in the yard. I am told the Hornby model is better model but I was unable to get one at the time. However I am pleased with the way the Bachmann has performed being both quiet and reliable.

To be quite honest the class 128 was an impulse buy as it was on special offer from a well known emporium near Liverpool.
It being in the blue livery I thought it would cover the times when I run a few blue diesels.
When it arrived well packed, I opened the box and the body of the loco was fine but all the underside details had fallen off. At first I thought I would send it back but in the end by using photos on the net decided to glue the parts back on myself. My original disappointment changed when after some careful painting of the under frame details I tried it out on the track. It ran superbly so I eventually forgave its earlier problems. In fact it has turned into a rather useful member of my loco stud, bringing in parcels and often a trailing wagon which it then spots where it is required by itself.
It all adds up to a few more operational moves which is good on a small layout like mine.

This time we feature the cleaner of my two class 57xx panniers, I don’t think you can have too many on any Great Western themed layout. This one is also a Bachmann version and like its sister runs very well indeed.
In the pictures we see her shunting in the yard and finally at rest on shed after a days work.

All looks great. I agree about the pannier tanks. I have 3 on my layout.
