Geography and geology were my favourite subjects at school - can’t kick the habit. I’m even noted for pausing TV to quiz the memsahib on geology.
Sad old git aren’t I?

Quite right about the last ice age calving up the rocky terrain. But the volcanos came first I believe. We have a lot of volcanic plugs around my part of the world. :D The redness of the Devon soil is volcanic I believe. The Devon volcanic red soil is rich in Iron which is not surprising because the earths core is Iron after all. :)
