WEST ORTON
Re: WEST ORTON
I saw these storage boxes in a video from Jenny Kirk recently and picked up a few in the WWS Easter sale. Took me two days to assemble them and the trolley to stand them on. I’m now halfway through testing each of my locos and transferring them to their respective drawers. Yes, I have found a few that won’t run straight from the shelf - that’s another job added to the to do list.
I will need to get another six drawer units but will wait for the next sale event.

Re: WEST ORTON
The drawers are made from lasercut 3mm MDF. These pics show they have plenty of room for a 9F or P2. Smaller locos leave space for a tank loco at the rear of the drawer - dividers are provided in the kit.
My only criticism is that locos have to be lifted in and out - I would have liked the option to slide locos out but to leave out one end would compromise the overall strength of the drawer.

Re: WEST ORTON
Think I would try lining the drawer with some polythene so the loco is lifted out in a sling if that makes sense.
But that would need a lot of polythene.

Not a bad idea Brian. I’ll see how I get on with them and bear that in mind.

At least the width of the drawer prevents you (not you personally) lifting the loco by the wheels and con rods.

Re: WEST ORTON
They look very good - if you have the space. I think Jenny Kirk did a recent Youtube video on buying and assembling them. I think Brian's suggestion about some form of sling for lifting is a good idea and worth a try.
Re: WEST ORTON
Yes, I saw them on Jenny’s video a couple of weeks ago. I realised I needed better storage when I was photographing the collection ready to add to the HM7000 app and had to clean a ton and a half of dust from the shelves that went all round 3 1/2 sides of the shed. I had considered an underboard storage yard but soon realised that was not feasible. But these seemed to be the answer.bulleidboy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 12:51 pm They look very good - if you have the space. As you can see, I built a trolley on castors that will take three columns of five units - space for 150+ locos - that sits under the end baseboard by the station but it can be moved easily as required.
I’ve now filled this lot - tested each loco first (yes I have a list of repairs to work through ) - and added a marker to denote TTS, factory fitted sound or TXS.
Waiting for WWSCENICS to have another sale before I buy the next batch.
