WEST ORTON
Re: WEST ORTON
Also had some more storage boxes arrive from WWS so I had a mammoth assembly session yesterday. I still have a few empty drawers and space for three more units if (when ) needed.

I believe its 114 so farbulleidboy wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 10:51 am That's a lot of locomotives? Very tidy and a handy way of keeping them.
These boxes are very good but not exactly cheap even at their sale price. I did think about building something based on an IKEA drawer unit - not much difference in overall cost at the end of the day.
In other news I've put a heater under the cloudy PVA to try and drive any moisture out. If that doesn't work I will repaint the river bed and start again.

Well, the PVA water in the river didn’t work. Had the heater under the board all night but it’s made no impression on it. Additionally, the ‘water’ under the bridge has started to turn so it’s clearly susceptible to humidity.
I will repaint the PVA to simulate the riverbed and start again with some casting resin instead.

After the debacle of the PVA that wouldn’t clear I’ve now replaced it with a layer of clear casting resin.
That was not without problems either - the one bottle of the stuff supplied via Amazon was lumpy and had crystallised in the bottle. Presumably contaminated or out of date. However a small test mix in a plastic cup showed it as still just ok - some of the crystal lumps didn’t dissolve when mixed but as the surface will be textured with Modpodge it’s not the end of the world - the most important thing is that the resin has set. It’s been tinted at the mixing stage with a sprinkle of Humbrol weathering powder to give it a clear peaty look.
I’ve added waterfalls using Woodland Scenics water effects - dabbed and stilled onto a sheet of glass then pelf off and stuck into place when dried overnight. Touched up the edges with some more water effects and being left to cure.
Later I’ll texture the water surface then once it’s all dried clear, I’ll pick out some highlights in white.

Well Steve that's all very impressive. I wish my railway room was half as tidy and well organised as yours

That really does look very good - the water cascading over the rocks - impressive. Here is a challenge for you Could you add the sound of water rushing over the rocks?
