Catenary height versus raised pantographs?

#1

Post by davidrivett »

Hi all,

Just running a few tests, and after scouring the web, the recommended height for pantographs on OO to be set is around 59mm to clear the catenary masts.

Issue I have is locos have them either down or fully raised but nothing in-between.

Can anyone suggest anything please?

I've tried a very small bit of core wire turning it into a hook, but doesn't look great!

Thanks

David

Hooks like you have made are fine but yours are a bit heavyweight. Use thinner wire. Probably safer to have the pantograph fully down.
Many moons ago somebody gave me an APT to test. I put it on my layout, it did three quarters of a circuit then threw my footbridge across the room.

AS WTD suggests or alternativly use fine fishing line to hold the panto at the height required. I guess installing contact wire on the masts is not an option?

Thanks for the replies.

Just using the masts for effect definitelynot doing the contact wires too!

Going to mount the mast bases on small magnets so when my running session is diesel only I can simply take them off.

Thanks
