That’s why I painted them black. I have a shovel and fork with steel handles and they are black. Perhaps I’ll just do the pick axe.

For 'silver grey' wood give it a coat of white primer then a wash of diluted black. Additional wash coats will make it darker.
For brown wood, go with the white primer again but then quickly dip it in Colron wood dye but you do have to be quick or any plastic will melt. Leave to dry on a paper towel.
