Beyer-Garrat
I would like to add one of these to my collection, But every one I come accross has had new motors fitted. So the ovbious question is are the motors unreliable?

I bought one on ebay last year second-hand but only removed from box to photograph from a collector. £350. (I think as I don't remember what I paid for sure) I do think it was the most expensive loco I have bought. I am very pleased with it. it is a very smooth runner and can pull loads of rolling stock even up normal gradients with out complaining. It looks spectacular when at work.
If only there was enough hours in the day..................John

Forgot to say. The motors in my one have never been a problem and they are very quiet runners.

I got 1 of these engines when they first came out , and have had no problem with it.

I would really love to have one of these big beasts but my layout's size is too small. They really are a spectacular engine.

Hi Malcolm,,,,,,I have a Garrett and my layout in later years have used minimum 2nd and 3rd radius and my Garratt runs fine on 2nd radius. It does turn very well for such a long loco. I am building a new layout at moment and making sure that it is above 2nd radius minimum. The new layout will be 9ft 6 inches

To take my mind off the big c, I pushed the boat out and bought one, But it has turned out to be a problem. It was not new but came with sound and firebox flicker etc: It will run in reverse perfectly round all of my track but in forwards it will derail or stall at most points. All of the points are hornby express points and the track is all 3rd and fourth radius. I have checked the back to back using a proper gauge and it is correct. I have watched it till I have gone crosseyed and it appears that it would derail on the leading wheels of the rear tender thus causing the front tender to derail. If anyone has any ideas as to the problem I would be glad to hear them, Tom.
