RELCO track cleaners
RELCO track cleaners
I have 3 of these. Seems looking on eBay where other are offering them, no one wants them. I've not used them in years. Time to bin them? Free to a good home!
Re: RELCO track cleaners
There is a very good reason why they don’t sell - they don’t play nicely with more modern locos.
Take them to the tip.

They don’t play well with any locos. Do far more harm than good.

Don't bin them. I can use them.. (Am I too late?)

Re: RELCO track cleaners
I think I put them in a black bag which then made its way to one of my outhouses in readiness for binning. Having a massive clear out at the moment so stuff is queuing in sheds for council bin pickup. The black bag is just dry stuff like cable etc. so there will not be any contamination. I will look and see if I can retrieve tomorrow and advise back here.

Re: RELCO track cleaners
I must admit to being very surprised at the negative comments on here regarding the Relco units. I have been using them very successfully since they first appeared. I find them brilliant at keeping the track and engine pick-up wheels clean and electrical connections in good order. Physical track cleaning is, for me, a thing of the past. Even when I have been way for a period and the track has "tarnished" the Relcos soon have things back to working in first class order. I am aware that some modern mechanisms do not like them and if I have such an engine in use, I do switch them off rather than risk damaging the electronics. Other than that, they are switched on permanently and have never caused any harm to any of my locomotives.

All I can say is you have been lucky. I hardly ever clean my track, just keep wheels clean and get rid of plastic ones.
If you find they work then keep using them. We all have different views about everything in model railways.
