Road Tax - Is yours due???????????

#1

Post by bulleidboy »

If you bought your car in August or September the chances are that your DVLA road tax is or was due. I was awaiting the usual reminder - which never came, so I was a couple of days late in paying. A quick call to the DVLA revealed that the reminder is purely a "courtesy" and not automatic. I mentioned it to my neighbour some days later and she found she had been driving without road tax for two weeks - she too did not get a reminder.
So if you are awaiting the reminder go and check when your road tax is due - don't forget it is back-dated to the first of the month in which you acquired your car.

I have my car and family members cars logged in the ‘garage’ of one of the check-car sites. They pick up info from DVLA and push out a reminder by email in plenty of time. In fact I just got one for my car tax due in October.

The MoT details passes and fails and lists fails/advisories, etc - quite handy.

My monthly DD for the DVLA automatically renews for my daily driver although I still get a paper reminder for my tax exempt Spitfire.

I pay our two cars by DD just to avoid such a situation. R-

one of the many perks for living in France, is that there is No car tax. A second perk is Mots, are every 2 years. I think we pay a tad more for car insurance, though.

What we do get, is a formal reminder 2 weeks before date of Mot, which costs 85 euros, every 2 years.

Cyprus had a 4 yr initial mot then every 2 years. Mots were done at a government testing station, so no back handlers to get a dodgy certificate. Each mot station had CCTV and if plod stopped a dodgy motor they could view the tapes to see if the motor was dodgy at the time of the test , E.g. damaged bumper or body or missing mirror, faulty light, etc.
Road tax was a laugh, it was due 1st Jan, but as so many folk used not to pay it they would put out a public notice in Feb saying you had until end of Mar to pay it.
Insurance was pretty good, if you had a bump, you rang the insurance 24/7 and they sent an agent out to the site within the hour to gather all the details, yours and the others, then arranged for recovery, repairs, etc. if you were hit by a hire car, they were all insured under a government scheme so you were guaranteed to be paid out.

Well I pay my £30 a year by direct debit so no complaints from me.

Why does RAF think that because the MOT was carried out by a government testing station there were no back handers? :D

My 23 plate 1598cc 131g/km Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is taxed currently at £560.00 pa or Band H. :(
I just love keeping the roads free of potholes with my large tax contribution annually :o
