Hi Team,

GWR Steam Era System
I have had a ZTC based layout for a number of years now with manual control of the points and signals.
I have decided to upgrade to using the Cobalt Digital motors and change my system to the latest Lenz System using XpressNet but awaiting delivery.
I have also been looking at JMRI to use to control the accessories on the layout from an iPad so that I can follow the train around the layout. I have created a working plan of the existing layout and added in a couple of new extensions and this is working just fine. I created it using the Internal unspecified system so that when the Lenz system arrives I can create a new profile for the Lenz XpressNet System.

I am hoping that someone out there is already using the Lenz system and can help me out. At the moment I am wanting info on how the XpressNet handles Accessory Addresses and what the pitfalls are to be avoided like not using a certain range of numbers. I am hoping that when a new profile is created the existing Internal codes will be converted to XpressNet format so that I can set a motor to learn and operate the point from the JMRI panel such that it will learn its address and the codes for the Normal and Reversed positions - either Closed or Thrown.

Welcome - once again I can't help with your specific query as I run a DC layout. Someone will be along shortly who can, I am sure.

Hi Dave
Welcome to the forum.
Lenz is not one of the DCC control systems I own, so sorry I'm not able to help with that question.

While I have a Lenz system I have never used it for point control, as I prefer a stud and probe type panel, and I must admit that I don't know anything about JMRI. (I simply don't fancy using a phone or tablet for train control).
I like Lenz as it has a lot of possibilities for expansion. It is something Lenz owners take for granted without realizing it.

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum. Sorry I'm unable to assist with your question. I do use JMRI but only the decoder pro bit to read and display all the CV settings, although I find it easier to program using the Z21. As computer control goes I'm trialling iTrain.

Hope you find a solution soon.
