Used to make it from scratch every year. I spent a lot of time sticking lots of cloves inro whole oranges! Then I discovered Lidl Gluhwein which is as good as anything you can make. Just pimp it up a bit with some fresh fruit and it takes some beating. Most of the other supermarket offerings are just too sweet and usually light on alcohol content.

Thought i might try and make some for Christmas used to watch my aunt make it and watched when homemade Christmas pudings and cakes were made

Tried a glass once - err no, definitely not to my taste. Goes into the same spittoon as Mead.

Only time I really enjoyed it was at a freezing cold Christmas market in Frankfurt. Warmed me up.

Very many years ago, some bright spark suggested we have Mulled Wine instead of Champagne Cocktails at the office Christmas Party. It was prepared in the office kitchen -and the whole building reeked of cloves for weeks - we never had it again.
