RAF target practice.

We live near a small RAF station and this morning the boy;s in blue were using our little cottages as target practise. They were at it for a good few minutes. Love the way the ground shakes sometimes when they go into a steep clime. It was great fun watching them playing up there. That was a good start to the day. We often get our own private air display living here.
I think they were Jaguars but to be honest they went by so fast am not sure................John

You got Tornados, Typhoons or the new Lightning 2s or American stuff out of Lakenheath area.

I am sure you are correct I am not up on aircraft. I was good show this morning what ever they were. John

Or if they were black ones they would be Hawks.

As I said RAF.......... I am not good on aircraft but looked at some pictures and I think they were Typhoons. And looked like they had a good load under the wings. As for the colour, bright sky behind so could not see the colour.

I believe the Vulcan still is (Vulcan to the sky). A truly awesome aircraft. I used to love operating with them in the Navy. When you were buzzed by one of those you really knew it. They were still proving their worth in 82 during the Falklands.

We used to get used as target practice when sailing off the West Coast of Scotland, all peace and quiet and the wam bam and a deafening roar as the banked away.
This can also happen to motorists on the M6 between Tebay and the Kendal exit.

According to the info on the website link, the Vulcan was retired from flying at the end of the 2015 season.

A few years ago I say one of the Typhoon Eurofighters doing a display just prior to the Bristol Balloon Festival, during which the pilot was more or less hanging it by its nose; the noise was absolutely ear-splitting!

As previously said the Vulcan is no longer flying but is kept in ground running order based at Doncaster airport. You can go and see it and even get involved in maintaining it, see the web site. It's licence to fly was revoked by CAA when the major supporting companies such as BAE Systems and Rolls Royce withdrew their support.

They are working on a Canberra and Mosquito at present.
