I have a serious predicament Not model railway related, but it most certainly affects Wykeham. In 2022 we had all of the double glazing on the front of the house renewed. It is now the turn for the back of the house. Double glazing is now installed from the inside, not the outside as it was many years ago. It will not be possible to renew the railway room window without removing the layout board that runs across the window together with my control desk. SWMBO is fairly relaxed as to whether this window is replaced or not, and accepts it would be a major disruption to the layout - it could of course be done some other time. What would you do?

I think you have already answered it. Do it another time.

I was in the same predicament just before Covid. Doing mine 'another time'.

Ask installer if there is any way it can be done from outside.
Ask another installer.
Pour a whisky and remove baseboard etc,
Put it off until it needs to be done.
Pour another whisky.

If SWMBO is happy to leave it and it won’t affect your brownie points then leave it.

There is another option.
Remove the board, fit a bay window and extend the layout into the bay.
I’ll see myself out.

New windows are now fitted from the inside as a security measure. It is possible to remove an old double glazed unit from the outside - unlikely to happen, but it can be done very easily and quickly.

The decision has been made and the window will be replaced. This does give me a chance to remedy one or two things where I can no longer reach with boards in situ. I am also looking and considering how I can make point operation simpler - perhaps with less wire. One of the biggest problems is removing the two kitchen base units that sit under the boards that are both crammed with "stuff". Watch this space.
